Don't you hate when you screw up?!?!

I screw things up a lot. My sweet husband would say "why are you focusing on the bad you do lots of things right!" And in many ways he is right but when you do something right you check it off your to do list and move on. It does not haunt you and follow you and make you feel drab.

Ok so today's mess up was not that bad. When I got my Etsy store back up and running the other day, apparently I was a little over zealous in re-listing things and I listed some napkins that I do not in fact have. (well I didn't until a few minutes ago) How do I now know this b/c of course those are the napkins that someone bought from me.

I was all excited Wednesday night when this order came in. But did not have time to go look for the napkins and package them up until this morning. Which is when I discovered I do not have these in stock. So I had two choices.
1. I could tell the person who had bought them about my mistake and refund their money.
2. I could wash all 10 yards of this fabric and cut and sew napkins.

Me being me I could not just wash and cut enough to fill the order I had to wash and cut an entire bolt of fabric. Which I did. It only took me an hour and then guess what. I got to cross "ship etsy order" OFF of my to do list. Ok well it is an electronic list so it was a click but you get the drift.

Additionally today I have clicked off (really not as satisfying a way to say it)
- finalize details for M's new dance class
- read and respond to emails
Not so impressive when you see how many items have a big empty open check box sitting next to them. But at least next week when I go to cut and sew napkins I will have a bit of a head start.
And I did not have to disappoint a new customer. So all in all not a terrible day so far.

Off to click off more items as DONE!

In a small space being organized is key

My studio used to be our spare bedroom in our house. As I got more and more sewing supplies the spare room was lost and a studio gained. It is a wee bit of a pain when we have visitors but the everyday use of this room is so much better and productive than I would have every imagined.

I continue to squeeze more and more supplies into my little room. My latest acquisition is a serger thread rack. I hopped on Etsy and searched for a serger thread rack. And low and behold I found a local couple with an Etsy shop and they make thread racks. Crazy pants, right?

Their shop is called Butterboo's Crafts. And since they are close to me we met in a parking lot near by, which was way easy and very sweet of them. 

I took it home and hung it, and filled it up.

 Super cute, I know! And I was able to hang all this thread up on the wall and freed up a shelf for other things.

 All this serger thread is for my very own one woman sweat shop. Right now I am getting ready for GreenFest in Decatur Square on Saturday May 11. What am I making?

This is a pile of cut napkins.  GreenFest is a festival that focuses on "green" products and companies and such. Reusable stuff made a mile from the Square is about as green and local as it gets. Ok so I guess I should have grown the cotton and spun the fabric myself. But I do what I can.

This is a pile of snack bags, sandwich bags and some matching napkins. I still have to cut the linings, but these are next up to be sewn after the big pile of napkins. You know more green products for GreenFest.

Lots and Lots more sewing to be done. Also I do need to finish the rest of M's Spring / Summer line.

Alright back to the machines.

Work, work, work......

I have to admit, I was a little bit lazy in January. Which I am now glad of because as the old saying goes, "when it rains, it pours!". And man has it been pouring. I will spare you all the sorted details.... for now. But in the midst of all my drama I managed to get some  work done. Here is a list that may or may not interest you but it makes me feel better to see it:

- New spring napkins over to Home Grown. You may be admiring my lovely new packaging. I am hoping these hold up a little better than the baker's twine. Also noticce how I have large and small napkins all matched up and pretty.

- My Etsy store back up and running. There are only a few things up right now but I plan to get more on there over the next couple of weeks.

- I am also working on re-organizing some things in my studio at home. And I am teaching more sewing lessons. While I really do not mind working and working hard I always look forward to January. It is always the one month that I feel no guilt about taking a break and re-assessing.

I spent a lot of January thinking and planning and buying supplies. Now it is time to put all those plans and thoughts into action. But of course many things are trying to get themselves in the way! It is what it is and I can only do what i can do!  Right?!?!

Did you notice Easter is crazy early this year? You think there is any chance my family will be getting new Easter clothes? A dress for M, a shirt for E and perhaps a little something for me? Well there is at least a chance this will happen. One of my resolutions this year was to make sewing fun again and not just a business. So we will see.

What have you been pondering so far for this year? Are you out of your January re-charge phase and back to work? Speaking of which I better get to gettin.
